UHAS, UG dominate top 50 lecturers’ list in Ghana – World Scientist and University Rankings 2021 indicates.
The top 50 academics in Ghana are dominated by 41 lecturers from Ghana’s two oldest public universities and a new entrant.
The World Scientist and University Rankings 2021 rated lecturers for their research activity and the influence of their various universities in their most recent monitoring work.
The University of Ghana has 25 top-50 teachers, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has nine, and the newcomer, the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, has seven top-50 lecturers.
The others are University of Cape Coast (UCC), three; the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), two; the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA, the Koforidua Technical University, the Ghana Technology University College and the Catholic University College, one each.
The exercise comprised a total of 706,043 scientists/lecturers from 187 nations and 11,518 institutions, with Ghana accounting for 627 scientists/lecturers and 32 universities.
Rankings
Dr Dwomoa Adu of the University of Ghana, whose subject area is Medical and Health Science/Dentistry, was ranked first in Ghana, first in the university, and 71st in Africa, according to the rankings.
He, on the other hand, was ranked 9,522nd among all professors in the globe.
Prof. Fred Binka of UHAS (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology) was ranked second in Ghana, first in his university, 83rd in Africa, and 11,198th overall.
Prof Seth Owusu-Agyei of the UHAS (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health) is ranked third in Ghana.
He came in second position in the UHAS, 105th in Africa, and 12,602nd overall.
Prof John Gyapong, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, was ranked fourth in Ghana, third in his university, 111th in Africa, and 13,938th worldwide.
Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health is his field of study.
Disease control, neglected tropical illnesses, and research capacity improvement are some of his other passions.

Prof George Dei (Social Sciences/Anthropology) of UEW came in fifth place in Ghana’s rankings.
According to the World Scientist and University Rankings, he was first in his university, 141st in Africa, and 16,860th in the world.
Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, placed second in his university, sixth in Ghana, 250th in Africa, and 25,636th in the world. His subject areas include Economics and Econometrics/Economics Development Economics.
Prof. Daniel Adjei Boakye (Medical and Health Sciences/Infectious Diseases (Tropical Diseases)) of the University of Ghana was ranked seventh in Ghana, third in his university, 290th in Africa, and 28,968th in the world.
Prof. Joshua Yindenaba Abor of the University of Ghana (Econometrics/Accounting & Finance) was ranked ninth in Ghana.
He came in fourth place at his institution, 358th in Africa, and 32,580th overall.
Banking and finance, development finance, financial market development, and corporate finance and corporate finance are among his specialties.
Prof. Robert Clement Abaidoo of the KNUST, who specializes in agriculture, forestry, soil science, and plant nutrition, was ranked ninth in Ghana, first at his university, 429th in Africa, and 36,216th worldwide.
Prof. Richard Odame Phillips (Medical And Health Sciences/Infectious Diseases) of the KNUST is ranked tenth. He was ranked second at his institution, 488th in Africa, and 39,598th overall.
Prof. David Teye Doku of the University of Cape Coast (Medical and Health Sciences/Infectious Diseases) is ranked eleventh in Ghana. In the UCC, he finished first, 11th in Ghana, 513th in Africa, and 41,285th overall.
Prof. Ellis Owusu-Dabo (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health), a member of the KNUST, was ranked third in his university, 12th in Ghana, 514th in Africa, and 41,371st worldwide. Prof. Margaret Gyapong (Social Sciences/Sociology) was fourth at the UHAS, 13th in Ghana, 549th in Africa and 43,579th in the world, while Prof. Isabella Quakyi (Medical and Health Sciences/Epidemiology and Public Health) of the University of Ghana was fifth in her university, 14th in Ghana, 573rd in Africa and 44,867th in the world, with Prof. Daniel Ansong being the fourth in KNUST, 15th in Ghana, 628th in Africa and 47,460th in the world.
