UHAS offers admission to Francisca Lamini
The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has announced that it is ready to admit Francisca Lamini to its medical school.
Ms. Lamini, a Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) student, became the first female contender to reach the National Mathematics and Science Quiz finals (NMSQ).
UHAS is prepared to make the same opportunity to her other two male finalists, Bright Senyo Gadzo and James Lutterodt, if they qualify and are interested.
In a signed letter to the Headmaster and copied to the contender, Dr. Cynthia Sena Kpeglo, Registrar of the University, stated that the offer was in keeping with Ms. Lamini’s indicated wish to attend a medical school.
Ms. Francisca Lamini’s achievement makes her the first female candidate to reach the NMSQ finals since 2013.
Prof John Owusu Gyapong, the Vice-Chancellor, has approved the request.
“I write on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor to express our willingness to admit Ms. Lamini to UHAS to study our MB ChB (Medicine) program in the School of Medicine if she so wishes.”
The letter stated that, while the University was unaware of the other contenders in the team’s interest, it would be willing to provide them admission if they matched the University’s requirements for the wide variety of Health and Allied Sciences programs and were interested in enrolling in UHAS.

The University had been closely monitoring the KETASCO team’s performance and was overjoyed with the team’s outstanding performance throughout the competition, which won the School its first entrance into the tournament’s finals.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency to learn more about the admittance offer, Dr. Kpeglo stated that management “hasn’t worked out any details yet.”
“We are aware that a lot of groups and individual attempts to offer to finance for her education are forming,” she stated, adding, “and we are examining the issue.”
The Registrar stated that the University will wait for her reaction to the offer and “other indicators before taking it off from there.”
Mr. Samuel Agbematu, Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics, stated that additional offers had arrived, including one from outside the nation and one from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
He stated that the trio’s future will be decided by a committee at the proper moment.
He stated that Master Gadzo wishes to study Electrical Engineering, whereas Master Lutterodt wishes to study Medicine.
Meanwhile, Ms. Lamini told the GNA that she is appreciative to UHAS for making such a great offer to her and her colleague KETASCO finalists and that she would make a choice on the offer when the time comes.
“I’m taking all of the possibilities that come my way so that when the time comes, I can just make a decision.”

Francisca Lamini, the poster lady for the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), has continued to dazzle even outside of the competition.
Though her school did not win the main prize, she garnered recognition for being the only girl in the popular quiz show’s grand finals in the previous eight years.
During her appearance on the show, it was revealed that the Keta Senior High Technical School prodigy had already received straight As in the private Nov/Dec WAEC tests.
When she took the test in SHS 2, she was in her second year.
She has, however, duplicated the feat in the recently concluded West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), with the results being revealed on December 8.
