Twitter stated on Thursday that it had begun rolling out its new verification application procedure and was processing public verification applications on the microblogging network. Profile verification on Twitter isn’t a new feature; it’s been there for a while. The platform, on the other hand, suspended the original model in 2017, claiming that it was being misinterpreted as an endorsement. The verification is available for days
To be verified on Twitter, you must fall into one of six categories: government; businesses, brands, and organizations; news organizations and journalists; entertainment; sports and gaming; activists, organizers, and other powerful people. You must also have a complete Twitter account, which includes a profile name, profile photograph, and one of the following:
Your account must also have been active in the last six months and have a track record of following Twitter’s rules. The platform’s verification policy contains information on ineligible accounts.
How to get verified on Twitter?
Over the next few weeks, all Twitter users will begin to notice the new verification application on the Account Settings tab, as the process is being rolled out. According to the San Francisco, California-based corporation, it will be made available to everyone gradually. As a result, the option to have your Twitter profile verified may not be available right away.
Once you’ve selected the verification application option, you’ll need to indicate if you fall into one of the six groups that are eligible. After that, you’ll be asked to verify your identity by uploading a government-issued photo ID, entering your official email address, or providing a link to an official website that has direct references to your Twitter account.
Once you’ve submitted your application, you’ll receive an email response from Twitter. Depending on how many open applications are in the queue, it could take anything from a few days to a few weeks. Expect the latter, as there is a lot of excitement among people to get their hands on the blue badge.
If your application is approved, Twitter will display a blue badge on your profile. Otherwise, you have 30 days from the time you get Twitter’s decision on your application to reapply.
Despite the fact that the number of categories eligible for verification is now limited, Twitter has stated that it plans to add new categories later this year, which might include scientists, academics, and religious leaders, among others.
The new verification method, which has been in place for four years after the previous approach was suspended, is the result of public feedback received by Twitter last year. The revised verification policy, which was adopted in December, was informed by this feedback.
In January, Twitter began enforcing that policy, removing the verification badge from accounts that no longer fit the new verification standards, such as those that are inactive or incomplete, according to the firm.
