Tuchel Delivers Update on Mateo Kovacic: In the first half, the Blues midfielder was forced off.
Mateo Kovacic, a Chelsea midfielder, was forced to leave Wednesday’s match against Leeds after being tackled horribly by Dan James.
With Chelsea ahead 1-0 thanks to a Mason Mount goal, Kovacic had to be replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 30th minute.
For the foul, James was sent off, leaving relegation-threatened Leeds down a man and a goal in the first half.
Latest on Kovacic’s injury?
“It would have been close to a flawless evening if Mateo Kovacic hadn’t suffered a catastrophic injury,” Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel told the BBC. “From the beginning, it was a pretty impressive performance.
“It appears to be bloated and uncomfortable.” He had previously hurt the same ankle. It’s not looking good.”
“Two tackles in the previous two games that are a little bit over the line and damaging the team,” Leeds manager Jesse Marsch said of his player’s tackle. I’m not going to point fingers or assign blame to any of our guys. They’ve done everything possible. We must keep inside limits to avoid jeopardizing ourselves.”
