Tuchel Clarifies Why Pulisic and Thiago Silva Have Been Missing From Chelsea’s FA Cup Prep
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has disclosed that top players Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva have both missed training this week in preparation for Saturday’s FA Cup encounter.
After defeating Chesterfield in the previous round, the Blues are prepared to play Plymouth Argyle in the fourth round of the competition.
Pulisic and Silva were both gone from London this week owing to international obligations and have just now returned.
Tuchel confirmed the pair’s absence when questioned about his team’s injury news during Chelsea’s press conference on Friday afternoon, ahead of their FA Cup clash the following day.
“Unfortunately, not Reece James and Ben Chilwell, and not Ruben Loftus-Cheek,” he stated
“They’re still injured, and everyone else except Christian Pulisic and Thiago Silva was in training.” Everyone else was present, and we had a successful training week.”
Tuchel was then asked if he had spoken to Pulisic about his international match against Honduras, which took place in Minnesota in -16 degrees Celsius yesterday.
“I only became aware of it today, and I only heard about it today.” I assumed it was a form of retaliation by the US for Honduras’ high temperatures.
“I only learned about it today, I only heard about it today, and I assumed it was a form of retaliation by the US for Honduras’ high temperatures.
“To be serious, going from -16 to Abu Dhabi and +24 is quite an adjustment for him. And don’t forget that he and Thiago Silva didn’t have a break, so they’ve now got a few days off.
“Christian will join us on our journey tomorrow, and we’ll see how he adjusts to such a drastic shift.”
