These are among the new top 5 Covid symptoms, study says.
When the coronavirus pandemic hit the Western world with a fury in early 2020, governments swiftly issued warnings about the symptoms to watch for.
Despite the fact that many people have an asymptomatic Covid infection, they all have the same symptoms.
With the introduction of new variations, the symptoms linked with Covid-19 are evolving.
LONDON, UK — When the coronavirus pandemic initially broke out in early 2020, countries rapidly issued warnings on what to look for, despite the fact that majority of the transmission was asymptomatic at the time.
A high temperature and a new persistent cough were mentioned as probable symptoms, along with a loss of taste or smell, tiredness, and a sore throat (some added at different points of the pandemic).
As we move forward in time, more symptoms are being recorded and identified. Variation in symptoms has occurred over time as numerous viral variations, such as the alpha strain and now the highly transmissible delta version, have replaced the “original” Covid-19 strain identified in China in late 2019.
Now, novel coronavirus symptoms are being widely reported, according to an ongoing U.K.-based study that allows the public to submit their Covid symptoms on an app, which scientists can subsequently evaluate.
The current top five symptoms that have arisen in recent weeks, according to the Zoe Covid Symptom research, appear to change depending on whether you’ve been vaccinated and how many doses you’ve got.
The symptoms listed below were initially published in late June, but according to the Zoe Covid Symptom Survey, they are still the top five symptoms reported.
The symptom rankings are solely based on user reports in the app, and do not take into account which viral variety caused the infection or demographic data.
These are the top five symptoms reported by persons who have been completely vaccinated, have had one dose of a vaccine, or have not been vaccinated at all.
Symptoms if fully vaccinated
According to the Zoe Covid Symptom research, persons who had and hadn’t been vaccinated reported identical Covid-19 symptoms across the board in the app.
Those who had previously had the injection, on the other hand, reported fewer symptoms over a shorter period of time, suggesting that they were becoming less gravely ill and recovering more rapidly.
After two vaccines, this is the current ranking of Covid symptoms:
- Headache
- Runny nose
- Sneezing
- Sore throat
- Loss of smell
“Traditional” Covid symptoms like anosmia (loss of smell), fever, and shortness of breath ranked fifth, 12th, and 29th, respectively, according to the study. “A persistent cough now ranks at number eight if you’ve had two vaccine doses, so is no longer the top indicator of having Covid,” the study concluded.
Symptoms after one vaccine dose?
The ranking changes again after one dose of the vaccination as observed below:
- Headache
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Sneezing
- Persistent cough
One of the initial signs of a chronic cough has made the top five symptoms, according to Zoe, with protection from only one vaccination dosage.
What are the signs and symptoms of not being vaccinated?
“However, we may still notice some modifications from when Covid-19 initially arrived over a year ago,” Zoe added. If you haven’t been vaccinated, the symptoms are more identifiable to the traditional ranking.
- Headache
- Sore throat
- Runny nose
- Fever
- Persistent cough
“Loss of smell is number 9 on the list, and shortness of breath is number 30, showing that the symptoms as previously documented are changing with the developing viral strains,” the research revealed.
Covid cases linked to the considerably more contagious delta form are on the rise in regions of Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States, particularly among young individuals and those who have been partially or completely vaccinated.
While both the Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines offer protection against the delta form after two doses, both are considerably less effective with only one shot.
The newest research from Israel published on Monday revealed that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination was less efficient in avoiding infections and symptomatic sickness as delta spread, but that it was still extremely effective in preventing severe disease.
