This is definitely the most irritating aspect of the iPhone right now, and it has to be fixed.
We shouldn’t have gotten to this point, but we did. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to use your iPhone to read Twitter while listening to music or a podcast.
When you browse over an ad, the app just stops what’s playing. This isn’t just a problem with Twitter; it’s a problem with a number of ad-supported apps. There has to be a better way to do things.
Auto-playing video ads could be muted by default, but there’s a reason they aren’t. Auto-playing video advertising with sound, as annoying as they are, is more difficult to disregard than muted video ads. But here’s the thing: I don’t give a damn, and the experience is a waste of time.
Apple may enact an App Store rule prohibiting ads from taking over your audio. When another audio source seeks to take over, an iOS update might take into account the currently playing audio and require confirmation.
But, if we’re serious about eradicating this dreadful problem, we’ll need complete control. I’m referring to a Control Center toggle that allows you to set the presently playing music, podcast, or audiobook as the only real source of playback.

It’s the only way to return us to a time when we could listen to music or read the news while mindlessly scrolling through Twitter or Facebook without fear of our audio suddenly stopping, forcing us to press play again, only to have it stop again, and realizing the only solution is to force quit the offending app and try again…
Okay, fine, iOS could certainly handle this irritation in a different way. Let’s pretend that audio playback on the iPhone works the same way it does on the Mac. It is not necessary for one audio source to disrupt another. You can listen to music while being irritated by annoying auto-playing video advertising.
After some thought, this is exactly how audio playing on new iPhones and iPads should function. It’s also the most likely solution to our never-ending nightmare of our music and podcasts being taken over. However, I would prefer to keep my audio lock button.
