The leadership of NUGS met with the Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, yesterday (Tuesday, July 27, 2021). He was accompanied by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Joseph Osei Owusu, and the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. Annoh Dompreh.
They addressed the Union’s agenda with legislators, which includes taking the lead on student issues through the “NUGS Fix It program,” in which the Union addresses small infrastructure flaws in our elementary schools.
As the largest youth based organization, we inquired about the absence of Students Representative on the National Youth Authority Board according to the NYA Act 2016. The legislators advised us on the way to go.
Hon Joseph Osei Owusu ( 1st Deputy Speaker ) lamented on the space been taken by other youth groups and charged us to be the voice , articulate matters of students interest and bring out alternate views for consideration with well researched and factual analysis.
He charged leadership to remain factual and objective so as to reassert NUGS’ place as the central voice of students and the youth in the country.
They were told to set examples and demonstrate NUGS contribution on matters affecting Ghanaian students.
