Telegram’s Latest Release Includes A Number Of Features That WhatsApp Might Consider Adopting
Telegram provides a lot of useful features that WhatsApp does not, like multi-device support for numerous phones, channels for huge communities, and support for various phone numbers within the same app.
The December update for Telegram has been released and it contains various privacy features for the communication app. Users can now simply manage linked devices, delete messages from a given date and restrict others from forwarding media or messages from a group. Support for anonymous posting in public groups and the ability to check in by phone calls are among the new features included in the upgrade.
This update focuses on privacy. Message forwarding, screenshot capture, and the ability to store media from a post can all be restricted within groups and channels.
Telegram’s Latest Release
Telegram unveiled some new features in a blog post this week, giving the chat service even more functionality. For starters, it now has a feature for groups and channels called Private Content. This feature will allow group/channel owners to impose restrictions on forwarding, screenshots, and media saving in order to keep their content secret.
To change users’ ability to forward messages open the Group or Channel Info page > Group / Channel Type > Restrict Saving Content.
The added option to erase messages by date is another useful privacy tool. This is only applicable to individual talks, but it allows you to erase the chat history for a specific day or period range.
What else has been revealed?
In the multi-device category, Telegram has introduced a button to the devices menu that allows you to rapidly link a desktop or laptop to your account using a QR code. It’s also got a feature that locks you out of dormant devices after a certain amount of time (from a week all the way to six months).
Finally, the app now allows you to post as a channel in public groups and allows you to check in with a phone call (using the last few digits of the calling number as a verification code).
This is the most recent upgrade from Telegram in 2021, with previous updates delivering live streaming, screen sharing, unlimited voice chats, auto-deleting messages, and video player enhancements earlier this year. So here’s hope that the WhatsApp team is paying attention and will implement some of these features in the coming year.
