On the Prang-Kintampo road in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region, a military officer was shot and killed by alleged armed robbers.
On Friday, May 21, 2021, about 9 p.m., an incident occurred near Abease.
Sgt. Odei Job Kwame, who is believed to be in his early 40s, was shot during a shootout while on his way to Yeji, where he was born, when he came across the gang of robbers.“The officer who was in uniform faced an unfolding robbery incident,” said DSP Eric Awiadem, the Yeji District Police Commander, who verified the story to JoyNews Anass Sabit.
“When the criminals saw the military officer, they perceived danger and ordered him to get out of his vehicle. He obliged, but they thrashed him mercilessly before suggesting that he be killed.”“He pled with them, and in the end, he tried to flee; they tracked him down, pursued him, and one of them shot and killed him before fleeing into the bush,” DSP Eric Awiadem said.
According to him, the police were informed about the incident but when they got to the scene, they met the soldier in a pool of blood.
He was airlifted to Yeji’s St. Mattias Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body was taken to the morgue at the hospital.
The murder has since been investigated by the police.After a renowned Muslim cleric was shot and killed on the Abromase road near Yeji in March of this year, this is the second similar incident in the region.
