Senegal win Africa Cup of Nations in penalty shootout against Egypt.
Senegal has won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time, beating Egypt on penalties in the final on Sunday.
In the shootout, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy stopped a penalty kick from Mohanad Lasheen, allowing Mane to secure the victory and provide appropriate compensation for Senegal, who had been by far the stronger team in the final but had missed multiple opportunities to win the game.
Senegal won the penalty shootout 4-2 after 120 minutes of football failing to produce a goal. Sadio Mane, who had missed a chance early in regular time, converted the game-winning spot-kick.

The final, which took place at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon, was hyped as a showdown between Liverpool players Mane of Senegal and Mohamed Salah of Egypt, but it never lived up to expectations.
Mane had an opportunity to score inside the first 10 minutes when Mohamed Abdelmonem slipped in with a clumsy challenge on full-back Saliou Ciss, but Egypt goalkeeper Gabaski, the hero of Egypt’s semi-final shootout triumph against Cameroon, saved his shot.
Gabaski was chosen man of the match after keeping Senegal at bay for 90 minutes and then making an outstanding stop in extra time to deny replacement Bamba Dieng.
However, his attempts were futile, as Mane made up for his earlier error by slamming home the game-winning penalty kick. Egypt had held Salah back for the fifth penalty, but the shootout had not progressed far enough.
