Putin To Host African Leaders: On Thursday,27th July, the Russian president will host leaders of African countries for a summit in his hometown of Saint Petersburg.
This comes as the continent prepares for the effects of Moscow’s withdrawal from the Ukraine grain export agreement.
Fewer leaders than anticipated are participating in the summit, in part due to concerns about Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and its decision to withdraw from a UN-brokered deal that would have allowed safe passage for grain shipments from Ukraine’s southern ports.
Seventeen African leaders, including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, are expected to attend the Russia-Africa summit, which will take place on Thursday and Friday.
The Kremlin has accused Western countries of attempting to prevent African states from participating in the summit.
