President Akufo-Addo has cautioned government appointees, including Ministers of State, not to use sirens to avoid traffic in Ghana.
According to the Road Traffic Regulation 74 (3) of L.1 2180, “only designated vehicles mentioned in the statute can use the sirens,” according to a letter from the President.
“A police vehicle, fire service vehicle, ambulance, vehicle utilized by other recognized government security organizations, and a bullion vehicle registered by the Licensing Authority can use sirens,” the letter said, adding that anybody discovered breaking the legislation is “liable for prosecution.”
Meanwhile, Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey has given people till the end of July to remove their sirens if they do not come within Regulation 74 (3) of L.1 2180.
