POVERTY’S APPEAL
I make you hungry
I make you sad
So you make me the enemy
Why not blame sleep
Or call on fatigue
You could have worked forever
and earned as much as you want
But they forced themselves on you
And you can’t do without them
I am not the enemy
I make you beg
I make you lonely
So you call me an enemy
What about luxury?
What about greed?
You want more
Even when they have enough
Instead of sharing with the other man
You hoard as much as you can
But I am the enemy
You created me
I did not just come to exist
I exist because there is fatigue
I exist because there is sleep
And they make you lazy
You created me
I exist because there is greed
I exist because there is luxury
They prevent everybody from sharing
Even when they should be caring
If you did not know sleep
And you could do away with fatigue
Then you could work forever
And earn as much as you want
If you did not want too much
And there was no luxury
Then you will know when it was enough
And you will learn to share with another
Now you know your real enemies
But you have fallen in love with them
You enjoy the comfort of sleep
You relish how Fatigue makes you rest
You love how greed makes you want more
You know you admire luxury
That is why you created a new enemy
One you would not love
One you could only blame
Poverty this, Poverty that
made the bearer of bad name
Today I come with my claim
Cos two can play that game
