NSS personnel become certified teachers: In the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year, national service personnel assigned to educational institutions will receive specialized training to become certified teachers, according to Osei Assibey Antwi, the Executive Director of the National Service Scheme.
This one-month training program will equip tertiary graduates, who are not from public teacher training institutions but are posted to teach in schools, with essential teaching skills.

Working in collaboration with the National Teaching Council (NTC) and other relevant educational stakeholders, the National Service Scheme will award certificates to those who successfully complete the training. The initiative aims to enhance the teaching proficiency of the service personnel, providing them with the necessary qualifications to excel in their roles as educators.
Additionally, the focus for this academic year will be to post over sixty to seventy percent of the 2023/2024 batch of national service personnel to the private sector. This move is in response to the increasing demand from private institutions for personnel with backgrounds in Science and technology-related courses.
In light of the current economic crisis in the country, discussions are underway between the management of the Ghana National Service Scheme and the central government to increase the monthly allowance for national service personnel.
The aim is to raise the current allowance of GH¢559 to a more substantial amount in order to better support these dedicated individuals during their service period.
With the assurance of plans being well underway for the allowance increase, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, the NSS Director, remains optimistic that the government will take the necessary steps to ensure a fair and improved allowance for the upcoming batch of national service personnel.
