The preliminary round of the 2022 National Science and Math Quiz(NSMQ2022) concluded on Thursday, October 13.
Two schools matched for the highest points of the day on day four of the preliminary exams. Both University Practice SHS and Abetifi Presby SHS scored 79 points to win their respective matchups.
They were both tied for second place among the schools after the preliminary competitions in terms of points. Leading with 85 points is St. Thomas Aquinas.
Competitors included Presby SHS, Suhum, and EPC Mawuko Girls’ SHS. Mawuko Girls scored 14 points, compared to 37 for Presby SHS.
After correctly solving three riddles in the Goil Riddle Bonanza, they also received GHC 800.
In the meantime, Kalpohin SHS, Acherensua SHS, and Abetifi Presby SHS competed.
The losing teams received final scores of 37 and 14, respectively.
In their match, Aburi Presby SHS also put up a courageous battle. With 64 points, they qualified for the eighth round.
They competed with Nungua SHS and Atebubu SHS.
Mawuli School won a position in the eighth. They participated against Boaamponsem SHS and Fijai SHS.
With 39 points, the school from the Volta Region took first place. Fijai SHS came in second place with 35 points.
Krobo Girls advanced to the NSMQ competition’s next round by taking first place in their battle with 41 points.
To win the competition, they outperformed Bueman SHS (8 points), St Mary’s Girls’ SHS (27 points), and other schools.
Additionally, the girls took home GHC 2000 for the Prudential Life NSMQ star prize and GHC 800 from the Goil Riddle Bonanza.
Tarkwa SHS is another competitor in the eighth round of the NSMQ tournament.
With 31 points, they outscored Effiduase Senior High Comm School and Sekondi College.
With 64 points, Adventist SHS easily advanced from the first stage to the eighth stage.
They competed against Kpando SHS and Al-Azhariya SHS. With 15 and 13 points, respectively, the two institutions were defeated.
Mfantsipim School returned to the NSMQ in the goal of breaking the records set in 2021 after failing to advance in the competition the previous year.
With 61 points in their opening competition, the boys advanced to the eighth round. Sandema SHS only received 12 points, whereas West Africa SHS finished with 43 points.
In addition to their victory, Mfantispim received GHC 800 for taking first place in the Goil Riddle Bonanza.
The prelims might not be the final NSMQ competition for some of these schools this year, including those that lost today’s competition and those that lost in the prior days.
Following a tally, about 18 schools with strong performance ratings who did not place will be given the opportunity to compete in the eighth stage.
