Misuse of the Ho Sports Stadium: The misuse of the only standard athletic facility in the Volta Regional capital of Ho by sports-loving fans has caused chaos.
Fans say that the Volta Region’s sports administrators like handing out the Ho Sports Stadium for outside events rather than utilizing it for its primary purpose of organizing sporting events.
The facility’s soccer pitch has been a focus for outdoor event organizers, including funfairs, jams, and Christian crusades.
For nearly two weeks in December 2021, the pitch hosted the 5th edition of the Volta Trade and Investment Fair, leaving it in a dilapidated state.
This outraged football supporters, who demanded that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) repair the pitch and that the National Sports Authority refrains from renting the venue to event organizers who would cause damage to the surface.
The VRCC replied and pledged to fix the pitch; however, no work has been done on the pitch in over a month, so that promise may be empty.
Ho citizens were outraged after a match between Ho’s Division 2 team, the Home Stars, and the Black Starlets was canceled after only 20 minutes of heavy rain owing to significant flooding of the Ho Sports Stadium.
The enraged locals said that the stadium’s deterioration was due to it hosting numerous outdoor activities, with a focus on crusades.
Nonetheless, Divine Bosson, the MCE, guaranteed that the pitch would no longer be used for crusades or any other outdoor event.

In response to social media complaints about a Division 2 match being moved to 66 Artillery Park in Ho, he declared, “I told him to cancel the crusade.”
Mr. Bosson, on the other hand, appears to have been forced to bite his words after failing to keep his pledge that the stadium would only be used for athletic events.
The Isaac Anto Ministries are now preparing to hold the “Ho For Christ Crusade,” with the subject “Jesus will give you rest.”
As a result, Home Stars FC is forced to play Abutia Prestige in the barracks park, which is in poor condition.
Thousands of Christians are anticipated to attend the crusade, which will take place between March 16 and 18, 2022.
According to local media reports, the NSA Regional Secretariat claims to have given out the facility for a charge in December 2021 and hence could not refund the money “since they rely on such payments to conduct internal operations.”
As a result, residents of Ho have orchestrated a campaign to persuade the sports authorities to stop renting out the stadium for events.
They have a timeline of activities planned to spread their message, beginning on the evening of Wednesday, March 16, 2020.
