The Merseysiders’ Alisson Becker, though, denied Mason Mount before Kostas Tsimikas sealed the victory.
It was a “real brawl,” Becker told the BBC, and “anything might happen.”
He said the following about the penalties: “All I needed to do was save the last one. I’m overjoyed.”
It was a “great game” with a “wonderful atmosphere,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said ITV.
Klopp has already won all of the major titles during his tenure at Anfield, and he just signed a two-year contract extension.
Liverpool’s hopes of winning four trophies this season are still alive.
The Reds also won the EFL Cup final in February following a penalty shootout against Chelsea.
On May 28, they face Real Madrid in the Champions League final, and they still have a chance to win the Premier League.
Manchester City, on the other hand, leads the league by three points with two games remaining.
On Saturday, Liverpool got off to a strong start and had many chances to score in the first half.
However, the Reds were left disappointed immediately after the half-hour mark as star scorer Mohamed Salah walked out injured and was replaced by Diogo Jota.
During the first half, Chelsea also missed numerous great chances.
Chelsea appeared re-energized as the second period began, but they were unable to capitalize on their aggression, while Luis Diaz of Liverpool had a shot go just past the Chelsea post.
