KNUST Gang-rape: On August 3, the Asokore Mampong Magistrate Court. Six students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, were placed on remand in 2022 after being accused of gang-raping a first-year student.
The judge granted the prosecution’s request to detain the accused as they continued their investigation into the crime when all six defendants were present in court for the first hearing of their case.
The six students’ attorney emphasized their innocence in an interview conducted following the hearing up until they enter a plea of guilty or the court finds them guilty.
Lawyer Richard Adu Darko told the media: “These are students of KNUST who have been accused of rape. Looking at the facts that have been presented to us honestly we don’t see rape, but that’s what we have been accused of.
Additionally, the law states that if someone is accused, they are presumed innocent until proven guilty or until they enter a plea of not guilty.

The defendants are Patrick Fosu, Edwin Nii Noi Quaynor, Kingsley Asiedu Andoh, Thompson Nii, John Wilson, and Assafua Eric.
indicated that his staff will continue their inquiries before the next sitting, which is on August 18.
The defense lawyer also indicated that he will ask a higher court for bail on behalf of his clients so that they may take their exams and other proceedings, among other things.
They have been brought to this court of the first instance at this particular time in order to be remanded in legitimate custody.
In order to allow them to continue with their exams and participate in the trial while the case is ongoing in court, we will also take action and go to the proper forum to petition for bail on their behalf.
