News about the Inter Milan team
Inzaghi will be without Italian midfielder Nicol Barella, who was suspended for two matches after receiving a red card against Real Madrid in the final encounter of the group stage on December 7 and will be replaced by veteran Arturo Vidal.
After suffering an ankle injury against AS Roma last week, Alessandro Bastoni is anticipated to start and recuperate on time.
Inter’s attack will be led by Edin Dzeko, who will be flanked by either Lautaro Martinez or Alexis Sanchez.
During the traditional pre-match press conference, Hakan Calhanoglu expressed his thoughts on the game: “I’ve won a trophy in six months here, which I’m really pleased with because I hadn’t done so before.
The Champions League is a dream come true; we must stay united and play our best game in order to succeed.
I’ve already lost in the round of 16 of the Champions League to Atletico Madrid (with Bayer Leverkusen), and all of us as players want to advance “.
Inter’s Hakan Calhanoglu led the Champions League group stage with 15 chances created, however, he was only 5th in predicted assists with 0.9.
Storyline Indepth
Inter Milan and Liverpool will meet for the fifth time in European play.
Each of the previous four has advanced to the European Cup knockout stages, with Inter advancing over two legs in the 1964-65 semifinals – the year they won the cup – and Liverpool advancing from the Round of 16 in 2007-08.
Former Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini announced his departure from the club at the end of the season after that match.
The club then chose Jose Mourinho as his replacement, and two years later, the Nerazzurri won the Champions League.
Inter Milan has been eliminated from two of their past three two-legged knockout encounters against English opponents under the current UEFA Champions League format (since 2003-04).
All three of these teams have advanced to the Round of 16 stages, losing to Liverpool in 2007-08 and Manchester United in 2008-09, respectively, before eliminating Chelsea in 2009-10.
