Government Imports More Armored Vehicles
In recent times Ghanaians always wake up to the news of vehicles with huge sums of currency notes being hijacked by unknown assailants, which has also led to the loss of lives of noblemen in the security forces in the country.
The Inspector General of Police had to issue a warning not to accompany any vehicle without the necessary protection for police officers as a result of the string of robbery attacks on officers escorting sub-standard vehicles during cash transfers.
Dr. Ernest Addion stated at the 113th Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) press conference in Accra on Monday, July 24, that the Bank of Ghana does not anticipate any more fatal robbery attacks on bullion vans in the future, now that additional armored bullion vans have been brought into the country.
The police are currently searching for a gang of four robbers who attacked a bullion van at a suburb of Accra called Ablekuma Fanmilk. The robbers shot and killed the police escort who was accompanying the van.
