GOIL expects to lower fuel costs by 0.15 percent from today
According to Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the administration made this decision in response to the demands of commercial drivers who went on strike over gasoline price increases.
A litre of petrol now sold for GHS6.85 is projected to be reduced to GHS6.70 on December 7, 2021.
Mr. Nyarko told PM Express on Monday that he hopes the decision would compel other Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to lower their pricing as well.
“I won’t be shocked if they [GOIL] charge roughly 15 pesewas per litre for the items.” That’s the information I’m receiving. “I wouldn’t be shocked if it drops to about GHS6.70 tomorrow morning,” he said.
The instruction comes after a long discussion with transportation operators at the Presidency that lasted approximately 4 hours.
GOIL expects to lower fuel costs by 0.15 percent from today
The Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU) urges the government to eliminate various levies on petroleum products so that gasoline costs at the pump might be decreased.
The petition to repeal petroleum product taxes is expected to cut fuel costs by 25.44 percentage points, despite the fact that fuel prices increased by 39.92 percent between January and December 2021.
Their requests did not appear to have been met in the 2022 Budget, which is presently being debated in Parliament.
The enraged drivers then abandoned their equipment, leaving many commuters who rely on public transportation to and from their various locations stranded.
Following fruitless attempts to obtain a car, some commuters claim they were left with no choice except to miss work.
To defuse the situation, the transport operators stopped their strike at the government’s request in order for a dialogue to take place.
Abass Imoro, a GPRTU spokeswoman, also told Evans Mensah that the government pledged to eliminate various petroleum taxes in the 2022 mid-year budget.
The conclusions of the conference have been welcomed by the unions, who have urged the government to maintain half of the agreement in order to provide relief to both commercial drivers and commuters.
