Fire guts 3-storey building at Makola
A three-story building in Makola, Accra’s core commercial area, has been destroyed by fire.
The structure is made up of stores inhabited by hair and cosmetics retailers.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire started in one of the businesses about 9 a.m. on Monday, July 5, 2021, and quickly spread to others.
“This morning, I went to Makola to buy some stuff. During this time, I noticed smoke rising from the second level of the three-story structure. As a result, the residents in the area began requesting that others phone the fire department. The Fire Department was still not present after around five minutes, but the fire was growing, so everyone in the complex were attempting to grab their belongings from the stores before it spread. “I ultimately left since the fire was becoming more intense, and you could feel the heat from the flames, which might be harmful for those nearby,” she explained.
