Eden Hazard offers Chelsea his final response, following Roman Abramovich’s involvement.
Eden Hazard is reportedly considering staying at Real Madrid until the summer. Chelsea is apparently “not an option” for him.
As his well-documented problems at the Bernabeu continue, the Belgian winger has been linked with a return to the Premier League in the current window.
Hazard has been troubled by injuries in Spain and has been unable to reclaim the form he displayed at Stamford Bridge.
Naturally, a reunion with the Blues has been mooted, with Newcastle also showing interest in the 31-year-old under the new Saudi-led ownership structure.
According to El Nacional, Roman Abramovich was the driving force behind Chelsea’s interest since the Russian owner wanted to reconcile with the former Lille player.
However, according to Marca, Thomas Tuchel’s side is not among the clubs who have offered Hazard a way out, and he is expected to stay with Madrid until at least the summer.
According to Spanish newspaper Nacional, the Magpies made a £33 million bid with an additional £8.3 million in ‘variables’ in an attempt to get Hazard back to England.
Eddie Howe’s team’s offered the expectations’ of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who accepted it, but Hazard declined.
Hazard prefers to examine his alternatives in the summer because there aren’t many ‘proposals’ on the table right now, and his hefty wage is proving to be a stumbling block.
Hazard was certain throughout the summer that he was going to battle for his place under Carlo Ancelotti and that returning to England was “out of the question.”
On May 26, he stated: “Going back to England is out of the question because I still have a three-year deal with Real Madrid. Everyone knows how bad my first two years were, so I want to make a positive first impression at Real Madrid. I’ll do everything I can to make that happen.
“Given my contract status, I don’t see myself leaving Madrid anytime soon.
“I know who I am and when I’m in good form. If that’s the case, I’m confident that I’ll be able to give it my all for Real next season. That is my strategy.”
At Euro 2020, he said: “Everyone at Real Madrid is aware of Ancelotti’s contribution to the club.
“With this group, he won the Champions League, and he knows a lot of the guys.
“We know he has a lot of expertise as a coach. He is familiar with both the city and the fans. I believe we can achieve great things as a team.
“I don’t know him personally, but from what I’ve heard, he’s a great guy who simply wants to win, which is what we all want.
“We’ll have the opportunity to collaborate. It’s fantastic news for me.”
