This weekend, Instagram captions will be well-fed thanks to the debut of Drake’s long-awaited Certified Lover Boy.
The album is the OVO Sound co-first founder’s studio full-length since 2018’s Scorpion, which was initially scheduled to be released late last year. The latter included the oft-mentioned deep cut “Summer Games,” as well as megahits like “God’s Plan” and the “In My Feelings”-inspiring online challenge.
While the CLB period accelerated with the release of Lil Durk’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” in August 2020, Drake’s sixth studio album was postponed until early 2021. When January rolled around, Drake informed supporters that another postponement was necessary due to an injury.
The renewed dispute between Drake and Kanye West has gotten a lot of attention in recent weeks. West, of course, is coming off a series of performance art-focused listening sessions (and ultimately streaming release) for his long-awaited new album Donda.
West’s manager, Bu Thiam, told TMZ prior of the CLB release that it was all about “two creatives throwing shots at one other.” He said that any difficulties had been “rectified” for the time being. He did add, though, that West and his team are eager to hear “what [Drake] says on his record.”
