Captain Smart will be prosecuted in connection with a GHC25,000 fraud case.
Blessed Godsbrain Smart alias Captain Smart, the host of Onua TV’s breakfast show, has been charged with defrauding under false pretenses and receiving or offering a bribe to corrupt a public person by the Police Criminal Investigation Department.
This comes after a police probe into an accusation of corruption in which Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, was suspected of accepting a bribe of GHC25,000.
Kwaku Annan made the accusation in August of last year on both Net2 TV and Oman FM.
According to reports, Captain Smart collected a sum of GHC25,000 from taxi drivers and a resident of Achimota Mile 7 on behalf of the Roads Minister in order to stop a private developer from developing restricted property in the area.
Captain Smart was meant to hand the money over to the Minister as a token of appreciation for his assistance.
However, following a police inquiry, it was discovered that the Minister was unaware of the funds and had not received them.
According to the police investigation, Captain Smart did not give the GHC25,000 to the Minister after extorting it from the victims.
The police are preparing to file charges.
